In the south of the town Senftenberg, near the in Senftenberger Lake directly at the Schwarzen Elster is the imposing building, the renaissance fortress Senftenberg, situated. The palace goes back to the 16th century and consists of four wings and is surrounded by a nearly square earth wall with four bastions, which is still completely preserved today.

Part of the museum is the 'Gallery at the Palace' situated at the palace entrance near the fortress facility. Constructed at the end of the thirties in a historical style, the little house offers annually several special exhibitions, mostly about the 'Art Collection Lausitz".
