Holiday pure - The Senftenberger Lake

The Senftenberger Lake emerged from the former opencast mining Niemtsch. This artificially created inland lake is one of Europe's largest and a fantastic example for re-cultivating of mining landscape.

There, where once was a gaping giant nature wound is today a bathing paradise created in just a few years. The island in the lake with a surface of ca 250 ha emerged as aconsequence ofmining technology.Entering the island is prohibited due to danger of slope failure. In 1981 it was declared as a nature reserve.
