The Mhlenhofmuseum Grnewalde

In earlier centuries the Lauchhammer village Grnewalde was called "village of mills". Even though Grnewalde was only recorded very late, the village has existed since the 13th century; the time of early German settlement in our area. A village chronic is being compiled right now. The first part will be available from July onwards.

Four important watermills with their brooks and mill ponds formed once the picture of the village and that of the immediate surroundings. One of the mills, the old village mill was located at the plot of the present Mhlenhof directly at the edge of the old historical village centre, which forms a big 'U' and can still be recognised. The mill brook and remnants of the mill pond are still there. The village mill used to be a flour mill and malt-mill. Different owner were the families Zillmann, Naake and Richter.

The Heimatverein Grnewalde e.V. founded the Mhlenhofmuseum with the objective to reactivate the old village mill as viewing object. Farm and stables were reconstructed and newly designed, for exhibitions prepared and furnished in the course of AB- measures with the massive support by theInstitut zur Frderung des Umweltschutzes e.V.Lauchhammer. Numerous existing exhibits of mill and village history, which stem all from the village, illustrate impressively the work and life of farmers at the turn of the century. There are for example tools, equipment, vehicle and machines from the time when field, farm and stable work formed the life of theGrnewalder farmers.

When the visitor is entering the farm, the eyes will spot immediately the An original replica of a dove house. An important part of the exhibition is dedicated to grain seeds, harvesting and threshing. The churning of butter was part of the farmer's wife work and can here be seen.A small herb garden shows the visitor the most important herbs for the country people and of course the here growing grain varieties.
