Hohenbocka is a village with rural character. Several craftsmen and tradesmen as well as twogeneral practitionerswith their own surgery have settled here. Hohenbocka is situated insidea landscape conservation area, which stretches from the Ortrander area to theSenftenberg Lake. It is located in the district Oberspreewald-Lausitz (OSL, Brandenburg), belongs to Amt Ruhland and is from its size and number of citizens the largest community in the operational area. Hohenbocka counts today 1162 citizens. It was firstrecorded in the year1451. In the certificate it is called: "Bugkow propr Ruhland" ; Hohenbocka near Ruhland.

The certificate was penned in Latin by the monks of the monastery Dobrilugk (Doberlug-Kirchhain). Hohenbocka was Saxon in1635, before that since 1370 Bohemian; before 1815 in theBudissiner District of the royal Prussian Oberlausitz, governance Hoyerswerda in the land Saxony. On the 13th of March 1824 the Prussian administration reform took place and as the result of the Viennese congress Hohenbocka was allocated to the province Silesian, administrative region Liegnitz/ district Hoyerswerda.
In 1945 Hohenbocka belonged to theadministrative districtBernsdorf, district Hoyerswerda,state Saxony.
In 1952 after the district region reform Hohenbockawas attached to the district Senftenberg,department Cottbus.

Since the 1st of October 1993 belonged Hohenbocka to Amt Ruhland and administration is run from there as well. 120 years after openingthe first deposits for the mining of high grade arenaceous quartz in our region, the Hohenbocka'er Quartz Plant re-started the mining in a new opencast pit Hohenbocka/Guteborn. The crystal arenaceous quartz, imported raw material for glass making, made Hohenbocka also world famous industrially .
For Hohenbocka's young population there are playgrounds and a children's daycare centre.
